Turning a subject you want to take on into the shape of a book: how to read the material, how to structure it, who it is for.

Preparing the manuscript, checking facts, copy-editing and proofreading — not only catching errors, but working until the argument holds together.

Jackets, typesetting, paper and binding. We are set up for small print runs.

ISBN and legal deposit
We advise on obtaining an ISBN and on the legal deposit of copies with the National Diet Library.

Distribution through wholesalers to bookshops, or direct sales — whatever suits the book.

Questions
Do I need a finished proposal?
No. Start by telling us about the subject. A conversation or a few notes is enough.
What is the difference between trade publishing and self-publishing?
We discuss the content and the likely readership with you and then advise on which fits. The two differ in how costs are carried, and we explain the terms of each individually.
How long does it take?
It depends on the state of the manuscript and on how the book is to be made. We give you an estimate when we talk.
Can you do a very small print run?
Yes. We are used to small runs.
I have a finished manuscript. Will you read it?
Yes, please send it. We will read it and then discuss how it might be published.
Are there subjects you do not take on?
At present we concentrate on the humanities and social sciences. Other proposals are considered case by case.
